Measuring your feet sounds like a good idea… until you actually try it. It's fiddly, inconsistent, and every brand seems to use a different size chart anyway. That's why we always recommend starting by adding shoes you already love — they're the best reference point for finding new shoes that actually fit.
But hey, if you're determined to measure, here's how to do it (plus a few tips from the pros):
Step 1: Measure Later in the Day
Your feet naturally swell throughout the day, especially if you're walking or standing a lot. That's why the best time to measure is in the late afternoon or evening — when your feet are at their biggest.
Step 2: Gather Your Tools
You'll need:
- A sheet of paper
- A pen or pencil
- A ruler or measuring tape
- A wall
- The socks you plan to wear with the shoes
Step 3: Trace Your Foot
Place the paper on a hard, flat surface (no carpet). Stand on it with your heel against the wall. Trace around your foot with the pen or pencil, keeping it as straight as possible.
Step 4: Measure Length and Width
Use the ruler to measure:
- Length: From the back of your heel to the tip of your longest toe.
- Width: Across the widest part of your foot (usually the ball of the foot).
Repeat for the other foot — most people have slightly different sizes!
But here's the catch:
A 26 cm foot might be a EU 41 in one brand, and a 42.5 in another. Sizing is wildly inconsistent across brands, materials, and styles. Different brands also recommend different toe margins and the way you are going to use your shoe also affect the fit you want. That's why measuring your feet can only get you so far.
The Better Way: Add Shoes You Know and Love
You already own shoes that fit like a dream — use them! Just tell us the brand, model, and size, and we'll use that real-world data to help you find new shoes that fit just as well.
It's faster. It's smarter. And it's based on how your actual shoes fit — not a number on a ruler.
