It depends on the model. Hoka fit varies between styles, so a single verdict for the whole brand would be misleading, and we only publish a fit verdict where we have measured one. The dependable way to answer it for the pair you are buying is to work from a shoe you already own and know fits: enter it above and we will tell you which Hoka size matches it.
Start from a shoe you already own that fits, rather than from your usual number. Enter it above and we will convert through foot length to the matching Hoka size, which is the part that carries across brands. The EU to US offset is not the same for every brand, so a rule of thumb learned elsewhere will not hold here.
Not directly, because a size label means whatever the brand decides it means. A Nike 42 and an Adidas 42 are cut for different foot lengths, and so is a Hoka 42. Foot length is the common unit, which is why our comparison works from the measurements behind each brands chart rather than from the number printed on the box.

Hoka is a French footwear brand founded in 2009 by Nicolas Mermoud and Jean-Luc Diard and now part of Deckers. Known for maximalist cushioning and rocker soles, Hoka revolutionised running shoes with ultralight foam midsoles that protect joints on long runs.

Hoka shoes run small and snug with narrow toe boxes. Most runners go half a size up from their usual running shoe size. The Clifton fits close to true to size for narrow to average feet. The Bondi and Arahi run narrower and benefit most from sizing up.

Order half a size up from your normal running shoe size, especially for the Bondi, Arahi, or if you have wide feet. For the Clifton, true to size works if you prefer a snug fit; size up for toe-box room on long runs. Wide (2E men / D women) versions exist for Bondi and Clifton.
